Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) was one of the most original thinkers of the twentieth century. His writings cover a wide range of subjects and he made valuable and influential contributions in many fields, including Christology. For Steiner, Christ's incarnation and his death on Golgotha were central events in earthy and cosmic history. Humanity, he said, would evolve in time towards a spiritual awareness of Christ's presence in creation and the individual would no longer need institutionalized religious beliefs. Rudolf Frieling (1901-1986) studied theology and philosophy, earning a Ph.D. in Leipzig, Germany. He was among those who founded The Christian Community in 1922 and from 1960 to his death he was its leader. Among his works are Christianity and Reincarnation; Hidden Treasures in the Psalms; Christianity and Islam, Old Testament Studies and New Testament Studies. Emil Bock (1895-1959) studied German and theology receiving his licentiate in 1921. He played a leading part among those who founded The Christian Community in 1922. From 1938 until his death he was head of this movement for religious renewal. He is the author of Genesis, Creation and the Patriarchs, Moses and Judges, Kings and Prophets, and various books about Christ Valentin Tomberg (1900-1973) was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in a Lutheran family and became a student of the Russian Christian esoteric tradition at an early age. He was strongly influenced by Vladamir Soloviev and by a deep personal spiritual experience. He then became a lecturer of Spiritual Science (Anthroposophy) and later converted to Catholicism. He is the author of Old Testament Studies, New Testament Studies and Covenant of the Heart. Georg Kuhlewind was born in 1924 in Central Europe and died in 2006. He lectured in Europe and the U.S. on developing logos consciousness and was the author of eleven books including Stages of Consciousness, Becoming Aware of the Logos, The Logos Structure of the World, The Life of the Soul, and From Normal to Healthy. Edward Reaugh Smith has had successful multiple-decade careers in both law and business, as well as amateur careers as a concert pianist and an athlete. His life long search for the deeper meaning of the Bible, which he has taught for over twenty-five years, led him to the discovery of the writings of Rudolf Steiner. He is author of two major works, The Burning Bush and David's Question "What Is Man?". His third major book in the series, The Soul's Long Journey (subtitled "How the Bible Reveals Reincarnation"), is scheduled for publication in the fall of 2003. He has also written two shorter books, The Incredible Births of Jesus and The Disciple Whom Jesus Loved. James H. Hindes is a priest in the Christian Community for Religious Renewal and the author of Renewing Christianity. James H. Hindes has a B.A. in philosophy from the University of California Berkeley. His graduate work in philosophy and theology was done at the Freie Hochschule der Christengemeinschaft in Stuttgart, Germany. Ordained in 1975 he has since worked in numerous congregations in Germany, England and the United States. He has translated many works by Rudolf Steiner and others into English and has published Renewing Christianity, an introduction to Rudolf Steiner's Christology.
