Baptism and Christening - a great gift Baptism is an invitation to move to a different level of spiritual awakening, in a sense moving from the state of a baby or child towards spiritual adulthood. Of course, we also must be 'as little children' to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, and so baptism is both a gift of innocence and spiritual maturity, an invitation and initiation, and is the reason why the church places baptism as a centerpiece ritual of spiritual integration, or cleansing and new beginnings. An invitation to baptism at a spiritual level is in many ways coming face to face with our authentic self, washing away the illusions which we have held onto previously, samples of false words instead of our own inner Logos.
